VARTA Consumer implements new EU regulation

The transitional period for EU Regulation 1103/2010 will end on May 30, 2012. Starting then, all portable secondary (rechargeable) batteries sold within the European Union must carry information about their minimum capacities. In response, VARTA Consumer has put these new standards into practice across the board and has also extended its range to “Ready 2 Use” technology.

Transparent quality

VARTA Consumer reacted to changing EU law in a very timely fashion, applying it to the company’s range of rechargeable batteries. For some time VARTA Consumer has displayed realistic minimum battery capacities on all rechargeable battery blister packs. This means that VARTA Consumer was ahead of the curve in implementing the EU provision, which comes into force on June 1, 2012. It is still permissible to advertise nominal capacities prior to that date.

Dealers and consumers to benefit equally

As part of an EU-wide revamp, VARTA Consumer has completely adapted its battery range and expanded application of its Ready-2-Use technology, which now encompasses almost all of its rechargeable batteries. Consumers can use these pre-charged batteries immediately, making initial battery charge-ups a thing of the past. In addition, Ready-2-Use rechargeable batteries can be easily stored. Thanks to low levels of self-drain, the batteries are adequately charged even after a longer time has elapsed. The highest currently available Ready-2-Use battery capacity in VARTA’s range of products that complies with EU guidelines is 2,500 mAh.

Ready-2-Use technology combines the advantages of primary and secondary batteries. On the one hand, batteries in the range are ready for immediate use and feature very low levels of self-drain. On the other hand, they can be recharged hundreds of times – making them environmentally friendly and a real money saver.
